Amanda BretzWelcome to the website of author, freelance writer, and blogger Amanda Bretz.

I’m so glad you’ve stopped by. While you’re here, you can read my blog, buy my work and find out how to reach me through social networking sites.

I’m a writer, so I am always writing something, whether it’s a poem, an article for the online publication I freelance for or a novel. When I’m not writing, I like to read books, spend time in nature and I love movies.

Here’s a little more about me:

I’m a self-proclaimed Brit lit nerd and love Blake, Milton, Shelley, Byron and the list goes on.

I love to cook and find it to be a creative art form. It’s also a way to relax after a long day. I like to prepare big meals for friends and family. Two dishes I’m probably most known for are my great-grandmother’s red velvet cake recipe and my homemade alfredo sauce.

I like taking pictures, but don’t have the talent, or the patience, to call myself a photographer. The Instagram app is something I’ve grown addicted to lately.

It’s tough to say when I feel like I “became” a writer. I think I’ve always been one. It was just a matter of actually writing.

Growing up, I began creating stories before I could put pen to paper. I was always coming up with characters, creating a drama and acting it out. I think I realized it way back when I was nine or ten years old. I was looking through the Sears Christmas Catalog and I remember seeing the typewriters and immediately falling in love with them.

I carried the catalog around for weeks, and the pages that had the typewriters on it were eventually dog-eared. I remember thinking they were the coolest things ever and drooled over cutting-edge features like auto-erase. I begged my parents for a typewriter for Christmas, and told them I was going to use it to write a book. I justified the cost of the typewriter by telling them that I was going to make lots of money when I sold my novel.

I started writing poems at age twelve, but I really didn't start getting serious about writing stories until I was in college. I took a creative writing class that I loved and that's also when I started working on my first book, Finding Justus. When it came time to pick a career path, writing was a natural choice.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in communication from Florida Gulf Coast University in sunny Fort Myers, FL. While living in the sunshine state I worked as a feature reporter for a number of weekly community-based newspapers before moving to St. Charles, MO where I reside with my husband.

I'm pleased to say my dream of being an author came true in March of 2011 when I published my first book, Finding Justus. I’m currently at work on my latest novel, but if you’d like to stay up-to-date with my writing projects and learn more about my creative process, feel free to subscribe to my blog.

I am an avid social media user and love connecting with my readers that way. Visit the contact page here on my website to learn how to get in touch with me.

Thank you for your interest in my work.
